Our first fundraiser

How do you react when you hear someone is having a fundraiser? Do you grimace and think "here we go again" or "someone else with their hand out", OR do you think about the person or organization and why they have to fundraise and what the money is used for? We all have gut reactions to people asking for money, that is human nature. But I thought I would take the time to explain WHY we have to fundraise and WHAT the money is used for.

For us, a new and small nonprofit, fundraising and donations are essential to keep our doors open and to do what we do. We charge a very small tuition amount to our families. Even with charging tuition, that alone is not enough to cover salaries for our 4 paid staff, and expenses like curriculum, suppplies, insurance, etc. We are beyond blessed that Blackman Church of Christ provides a home for us, rent free. (Please thank them when you see them.) But we still have a large deficit in our budget. And that is why we fundraise.
